A spoof of a science fiction chamber opera of 45 minutes, employing multi-media techniques, combined with voice and traditional acoustic instruments.

The semi-scenic piece uses electronics and video and draws unashamedly on the expressive properties of operatic tradition.

Short synopsis

‘ The Pitch Shifter ’

In the transitional thoroughfare of the 893rd Galaxial Corner, Master Why, overseer of the In-visible Forum, has entrusted the Rajmin with a mysterious mission on the planet Zingula.  To assume physicality on the planet, they must take on Body Prints, which must be maintained with melodic codes, the Zongya-ru.  Just as their mission is about to succeed, they are attacked by the XXZZee’s, who wage a sound war with their Weapon of Mass Distortion, the Pitch Shifter, to reclaim Zingula as their home...

The opera was co-produced by Ensemble Insomnio and STEIM.
STEIM made the cordless live-recording object, the Pitch Shifter, in collaboration with the composer and gave the necessary technical support.
